Why We Chose Christian Education

Rachelle is a mom of two students at PCA and one PCA alum. Read her family’s perspective on choosing Christian education in the blog post below.

We chose Christian education for a few reasons, but the first and most important was that our boys, Riley, AJ, and Jaquari, can be surrounded by teachers, faculty, and staff who live their lives the same way we are raising our kids to live theirs. We’ve been a part of PCA for 5 years.

At the beginning of our first school year, my husband, Adam, and I met with Riley’s principal and teachers to discuss how he was adjusting to a new school. We started the meeting in prayer, and I was brought to tears as I heard this woman pray over my son. She was praying over my boy. She prayed that their goal as faculty and staff would be to encourage Riley to be everything God wanted him to be. She asked for wisdom in how we (his parents) handled things and how they (the school) handled things. She prayed that he would grow to be a godly young man. And I heard all the other teachers agreeing with her prayers. We were on the same page.

At PCA, my boys’ teachers start every morning with a devotional and prayer. There is an amazing moms-in-prayer group that meets every week to pray over each and every kid BY NAME. The teachers have the desire to not only do what they think is best, but what God thinks is best. Adam and I have put so much hard work into giving our kids the foundation that they have, and there is an incredible peace that comes with knowing that the teachers’ desire is to encourage what we have already invested in our children.

The same teachers who pray over my boys have become role models to our boys as they grow. The role models I see AJ and Riley looking up to as they have been in school are the same ones that I would handpick for them. They respect these teachers. They look up to them. They want to be like them.

Two years ago, we adopted Jaquari, who we had fostered for over a year. We were required to send him to public school when he was a foster child, but once we adopted him, we made the switch to PCA. The changes in our son at PCA were life-altering. I believe that his third grade teacher changed his life forever. She gave him confidence not only in who he is in a person, but who he is in Christ. We are forever grateful for that.
