PCA’s High School Symphony to Perform Student-Composed Soundtrack to Accompany Silent Short-Film
DOVER, NH, APRIL 19, 2021 — Portsmouth Christian Academy (PCA) Upper School Symphony will perform a student-composed live soundtrack this Thursday to accompany silent film, Sherlock Junior, by Buster Keaton. All music to be performed has been composed and arranged by PCA senior, Cort Baussmann.
Open to the public and observing COVID protocols, attendees may make reservations or view the livestream on PCA’s YouTube page. Registration can be found at this link. The performance will take place on Thursday, April 22 at 6:30 pm at PCA’s main gym.
Sherlock Jr. is a 45-minute silent short-film about an unskilled detective whose skills are put to the test when a watch is stolen. After a series of mishaps, he falls asleep and enters a world in which he is the detective he always wanted to be.
PCA Senior Cort Baussman composed all music to accompany this film. He shares his excitement for the project, saying “This silent movie, while mostly comical like most movies of this era, has some more emotional moments, which makes for an exciting 45-minute experience for those watching!”
The PCA student-composer is a three and four-time performer at New Hampshire’s Jazz and Classical All–State Festivals and has been accepted into numerous music schools to continue his career in music. Baussmann will be attending Berklee College of Music, studying composition and trumpet performance.
Music teacher, Katrina Veno shares her remarks about Bausmann’s musical career saying, “Cort showed leadership in ensembles and a strong understanding of music theory years ago when I first met him. He has worked to develop these skills, which has brought him to where he is today. I am excited for him to take his next steps as he goes on to his dream school, though we will certainly miss him as a musician and a person.” Bausmann has been attending PCA since preschool and is to graduate this spring with a Fine Arts Diploma.
