PCA Selects New Upper School Principal
Portsmouth Christian Academy (PCA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jordan Heckelmann as the new Principal of PCA’s Upper School.
Heckelmann, who has taught 8th Grade at PCA since 2016, was selected after a year-long search for the right candidate to lead the school’s Upper School, which serves students in grades 9-12.
“Mr. Heckelmann has demonstrated leadership on and off campus with the clear potential to lead our Upper School ” says Head of School Mike Runey, “Among many outstanding applicants for the leadership role, Mr. Heckelmann’s candidacy stood out for four distinct reasons: excellent self-preparation with a confirmed commitment to continued professional growth; a winsome desire to educate and grow young people to their God-given potential academically, spiritually, physically and relationally, with effective results; a clear commitment to personal and organizational excellence in Christian education; and—most importantly—his proven history of earning the trust and confidence of teachers, parents, and students that enables him to lead well.”
Heckelmann, married with a growing family, is a Colorado native and a graduate of Gordon College where he earned two degrees: BA History with a Sports Studies minor; M.Ed Curriculum and Instruction. In addition to being a scholar, he is an athlete and CrossFit coach. Heckelmann taught history at Valor Christian High School prior to his time at PCA, and over the last four years has been on staff at PCA as a standout Middle School teacher.
Heckelmann will be transitioning into the Principal position over the summer, beginning June 15, and will immediately begin continued preparations for the Upper School for the 20-21 school year. He is succeeding Mr. Stephen Foley, who stepped up to serve as the interim principal this past year. Foley will resume his duties as Dean of Men and English teacher and will support Heckelmann’s transition this summer.
