PCA Junior High Students Take to the High School Stage

Four Junior High students participated in PCA’s Upper School Christmas concert. Congratulations to Amanda Leland, Tim Lam,  Sierra Lignos, and Julie Stevens and all musicians at this amazing performance!

If you were at the Upper School Christmas concert this December, you were probably wowed by the beautiful performance and talented musicians. Students played, sang, and danced numerous festive Christmas pieces, including challenging selections from “The Nutcracker.” What you may not have noticed from the audience was four younger students performing with our Upper School students.

Amanda Leland, Tim Lam,  Sierra Lignos, and Julie Stevens are Junior High musicians at PCA. This year, in addition to their involvement in Junior High Orchestra and Choral groups, they were given the special opportunity to join the Upper School musicians for the Christmas concert.

“These junior high students really are amazing,” said Carroll Stevens, Director of the Fine Arts Department, in explaining the significance of their involvement.  “They are playing music that many high school students would find challenging!”

Julie, Tim, and Amanda joined Upper School Voices for a four-movement cantata by Michael Haydn called “Run, Ye Shepherds to the Light.” These same students, along with Sierra, also joined the Symphony in their performance of the Blue Danube Waltz. They did an excellent job learning the advanced music and participating in a different setting.

This special opportunity is just one example of how Portsmouth Christian Academy differentiates learning across all grade levels. Portsmouth Christian Academy faculty and staff look for what makes each child remarkable so that they can inspire them to maximize their God-given potential. They take an agile approach throughout the school year, making sure all students’ ongoing development is taken into account. Students are assessed regularly in reading and comprehension, math, and fine arts to adjust the challenge level as needed. From preschool through graduation, our faculty and staff are attuned to the changes happening in our students. They are nurturing each individual child, inspiring them every step of the way to grow into their unique selves.
