PCA Boys Basketball Advances to the State Championship Game!!!  First time since 2005.

Perseverance, hard work, and execution… All words that could be used to describe the Portsmouth Christian Eagles “gritty” win last night in the semi finals!

The varsity boys basketball team entered the post season tournament as the #2 seed with a record of 16-2. After beating #15 Canaan-Pittsburg and rival #7 Epping on their home court, the boys traveled to Plymouth State University to face off against the #3 seed Woodsville (also finishing the regular season with a record of 16-2). After PCA scored the first basket of the game, Woodsville’s best player made three 3-pointers in a row, and PCA quickly found themselves in the hole 9-2.

PCA clawed their way back, despite having three of their starters on the bench in foul trouble for most of the second quarter, and entered their locker room at half time with only a one point deficit. Woodsville again came out strong to start the second half, and PCA found themselves down by twelve, 24-36, with two and a half minutes left in the third (this was the first double digit deficit that PCA had seen since the Christmas tournament back in December). But PCA battled back once again, and cut the lead to 6, 32-38, by the end of the third quarter.

From this point on, PCA’s defense took over, holding Woodsville to only one field goal and four points in the fourth quarter! PCA took the lead back for the first time since the beginning of the game (when it was 2-0) with 2:41 left to play. Woodsville then scored their only field goal of the fourth to retake the lead 41-42. The Eagles immediately scored a layup inside to go back up 43-42! PCA scored the final point of the game from the free throw line with 33 seconds to go, and PCA advanced to the championship with a 44-42 “heart-stopping” victory!

The Eagles are poised and looking forward to taking on their biggest challenge yet!  They will be facing the #1 seed and undefeated Littleton in the championship game onFriday, March 11, at 7:00PM.  The game will again be held at Plymouth State University.

This game is a big deal!  There are many talented players and athletic teams that never get a chance to play for a state championship for their school.  Join this hard-working, talented, and determined team at their last stop on the road to the Championship Title!

Address for the game: Plymouth State University, High Street, Plymouth, NH
Directions:  I-93 north and south Exit 25, turn right
