PCA Announces Class of 2021 Highest Honors Students

DOVER, NH, MAY 28, 2021 – Portsmouth Christian Academy at Dover (PCA) is proud to announce the Class of 2021’s highest honors students, whose consistent hard work and focus on excellence helped them achieve highest honors status throughout their years at PCA.

Lily Kjendal

Lily Kjendal is the daughter of David and Cheryl Kjendal of Durham, NH. She will be attending the University of Vermont in the fall and will pursue a degree in Biomedical Engineering in their College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences and Honors College. Lily was also accepted at the University of New Hampshire, the University of New England, George Washington University, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.  

Lily has maintained highest honors status while attending Portsmouth Christian Academy at Dover and is the valedictorian of her class. She is an avid runner as a three-season track and cross-country athlete, has been a captain for numerous seasons, and has achieved awards for ‘most improved’ and ‘mighty in spirit.’ She also served as the worship team leader her senior year. 

Lily has received the University of Vermont Presidential Scholarship, the Turbocam Cross Culture Scholarship, a certificate of excellence from the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, and was a National Merit Scholarship finalist. 

Sam Healey

Sam Healey is the son of Tim and Laura Healey of Nottingham, NH. Sam has attended Portsmouth Christian Academy since second grade and is excited to be graduating in the spring.  

Sam has maintained highest honors status while attending PCA. He has served as class president for three years, as a member of the debate club for two years, as a member of the math team for two years, and as a student ambassador for four years. Sam has also served as an assistant Mixed Martial Arts instructor at a local dojo and is currently working as an assistant front-end manager at Market Basket. 

Outside of school, Sam enjoys skiing, golfing, reading, and spending time with his friends.  

In the fall, Sam will be attending Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT. He will be pursuing a five-year MBA in Business Marketing as a member of the honors program. 

Bethany Koshy 

Bethany Koshy is the daughter of Pramodh and Glory Koshy of Dover. She will be attending Endicott College in the fall and will pursue a degree in Criminal Justice. Bethany was also accepted to Gordon College, the University of Massachusetts Lowell, the University of New Hampshire, Messiah University, and Liberty University.  

Bethany has maintained highest honors while attending Portsmouth Christian Academy. She also participated in three seasons of sports as a member of the cross country, winter track, and spring track teams. She served as co-leader of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes club her senior year, and was part of the school’s worship team. She also participated in PCA’s symphony and jazz band throughout high school.  

Bethany received the Presidential Academic Scholarship from Endicott College, and was also accepted into their Scholars Program.  

Liza Corso

Liza Corso is the daughter of Scott and Daphne Corso of Newmarket. She will be attending Lipscomb University in the fall and pursuing a degree in Nutrition Science. Liza was also accepted at Baylor University and Liberty University.   

Liza has maintained highest honors status while attending Portsmouth Christian Academy at Dover. Liza has been a member of student government for all four years and served as vice-president of her class. She was also a member of missions club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.   

Liza has been a three-sport varsity athlete participating in cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track for all four years of high school. She has also been a part of Extreme Air, a nationally competitive jump rope team, the Region 10 Select Performance Jump Rope Team and the Agamenticus Ski Club.   

Liza has been nominated as the Granite State Conference Athlete of the Year for both track and cross country, has numerous school records in cross country and track events, has been team MVP for multiple seasons, part of a state championship relay team and has been state-runner up multiple times. She also has been nominated to the NH All-State Team all four years.   

Liza has received a scholarship to run Division 1 cross country and track and field at Lipscomb University. She has received the Turbocam Cross Culture scholarship and the Lipscomb University Merit Scholarship.  

Bella Ouellette

Isabella Ouellette is the daughter of Robert and Lori Ouellette of Rochester. Isabella will be attending Messiah University in the fall and will pursue a degree in Nursing. Isabella was also accepted to the University of New England, Merrimack College, Adelphi University, University of Southern Maine, and Florida Southern College.   

Isabella has maintained highest honors status while attending Portsmouth Christian Academy at Dover. Isabella served as secretary of the senior class and has been a member of Student Government for four years. Isabella was captain of the varsity volleyball team at PCA for her senior year.  

Isabella has received the Messiah University Provost’s Scholarship and the R. H. Flowers Scholarship.  

Madison Trainor

Madison Trainor is the daughter of George Trainor of Kingston, New Hampshire. Madison will be attending Liberty University in the fall and will pursue a degree in Law and Policy on a pre-law track with a minor in psychology. Madison was also accepted to Virginia Polytechnic University, Berry College, Florida Southern University, and the University of New England.  

Madison has maintained Highest Honors status while attending Portsmouth Christian Academy at Dover. Madison served in the missions club her sophomore and junior year where they worked on packaging gift boxes and doing community outreach. Madison was also the co-head of the Prom Committee her senior year.  

Madison attends The First Congregational Church of Kingston, where she has previously helped in the children’s ministry. She was a three-year captain of her varsity basketball team at PCA as well as a member of the Seacoast Lady Spartans, an AAU basketball team out of Hampton NH. The past two years Madison received honorable mention for the All-State Team and in her senior year she reached her 1000th career point.  

Jocelyn Hewitt

Jocelyn Hewitt is the daughter of Jonathan and Heather Hewitt of Exeter. Jocelyn will be attending Wheaton College in Illinois in the fall and will be majoring in Psychology and minoring in Math. Jocelyn was also accepted to the University of New Hampshire, Gordon College, and Connecticut College. She has received the Presidential Scholarship for Wheaton College. 

Jocelyn has maintained highest honors status while attending Portsmouth Christian Academy at Dover. Jocelyn served as a Student Council representative for the past four years and has attended both Student Council and Student Government meetings. She also was a member of the Math Team for two years. 

Jocelyn attends First Congregational Church of Kingston, where she has volunteered at VBS the past few summers. She has also volunteered at the VBS program of Hampton Falls First Baptist Church for the past five years. She has played on PCA’s Women’s Volleyball team throughout high school and was the captain of the Junior Varsity team her sophomore year. Jocelyn also has been working at Starbucks for the past year as a barista.  

Trevor Garton

Trevor Garton is the son of Tricia and Scott Garton of Somersworth. Trevor will pursue a place in the apprenticeship program at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. In the meantime, Trevor will continue working at his job at Grand View Campground in Rochester.  

Trevor has maintained highest honors status while attending Portsmouth Christian Academy at Dover. Trevor served as a singer for the high school’s worship team for two years. He is a sprinter and thrower for the Portsmouth Christian Academy varsity track team, making it to the Meet of Champions several times for various relay teams. As well as this, he also played defense for the school’s soccer team whilst running on the school cross-country team.  

Lindsey Hatfield

Lindsey Hatfield is the daughter of Keith and Tara Hatfield of Dover, New Hampshire. Lindsey will be attending the University of New Hampshire in the fall to pursue a career in Nursing. She was also accepted into the nursing programs at Rivier University, Messiah University, Liberty University, the University of New England, St. Anselm College, Endicott College, Gordon College, and Colby-Sawyer College.  

Lindsey is a recipient of the Turbocam Cross Culture Scholarship, the Strafford County Board of Realtors Scholarship, the Holy Rosary Credit Union Scholarship, and the Trustees’ Scholarship at the University of New Hampshire. 

During her time at Portsmouth Christian Academy, Lindsey earned highest honors every quarter. Lindsey played on PCA’s varsity volleyball and softball teams all four years of high school. She has been playing the flute in her school’s orchestra since her freshman year. She has also been a small group leader for the past two years. She has attended Durham Evangelical Church her entire life and has been involved with its student ministries. Lindsey is a certified LNA and works part-time as a server at an assisted living facility in her community. 

Hanzhi Xu

Hanzhi Xu (Hans), salutatorian, is the son of Jianping Xu and Jianping Lin of Deqing, China. While attending Portsmouth Christian Academy in Dover, he has lived with Scott and Beverly Lauer of Durham, New Hampshire. Hans will be attending University of Washington in Seattle in the fall and will pursue a degree in biomedical engineering. Hans was also accepted at Case Western Reserve University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  

Hans has maintained highest honors status while attending Portsmouth Christian Academy. Hans served as president of the International Student Union and was a member of the Science and Medical club for two years. Hans has also been part of the choral program for three years and a member of the track team and tennis club.  

Hans received the Rensselaer Medal Award and was selected as a candidate for the Presidential Scholarship. Hans has received many awards from math, Bible, history, and science classes.  

Throughout his three years at Portsmouth Christian Academy, Hans has volunteered at “Friends Forever International (FFI)” of Durham and participated in many cultural-exchange programs at FFI, befriending people from Northern Ireland, Ukraine, and Tajikistan. Hans will continue participating at FFI as an alumnus while attending college next year. 

George Cheney

George Cheney is the son of Robert and Angela Cheney of Farmington. George will be attending the University of New Hampshire in the fall and will pursue a degree in Business Administration. He was also accepted to Bentley University, University of Rhode Island, and Hofstra.  

George has maintained highest honors status while attending Portsmouth Christian Academy at Dover. He has participated in indoor and outdoor track for all 4 years. He also works part time at a local Thai restaurant in Dover.  

Isabella Minai

Isabella Minai is the daughter of Kim Minai of Epping. Isabella will be attending the University of California- Santa Barbara in the fall and will pursue a degree in Chemistry. She was also accepted to Pepperdine University, Chapman University, and three other UC campuses (Irvine, Riverside, and San Diego). 

Isabella has maintained highest honors status while attending Portsmouth Christian Academy at Dover. She has participated in her school’s missions club where she went on a week-long mission’s trip to Puebla, Mexico her freshman year. She co-led the club her junior year. She has also participated on her school’s math team and track team. 

Isabella works part-time at a local ice cream shop, Stillwells Ice Cream, in Exeter and Hampton. 

James Lotter

James Lotter is the son of CJ and Debrah Lotter of Dover, New Hampshire. James will be attending Baylor University in the fall and will follow a Pre-Medical track while studying areas of Biology, Kinesiology, and Medical Humanities as a University Scholars major. He was also accepted to Wheaton College (Illinois), University of New England (Biddeford), and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.  

James has maintained highest honors status while attending Portsmouth Christian Academy at Dover. He has served in areas of leadership all around the school with his work in the tech department, role as a student ambassador, club leader, and small group leader. He enjoyed his time partaking in clubs of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Medical Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Worship Team. He has also enjoyed growing in his faith alongside his small group.  

James has received the Baylor Persist Scholarship, Baylor Presidential Merit Scholarship, Turbocam Cross-Culture Scholarship, and the DAR Good Citizens Award.  

James attends the First United Methodist Church in Rochester. He also works part-time at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in the Food & Nutrition Department. Moreover, he loves to fill his free time with his PCA running family in Cross Country, Winter Track, Track & Field, and he is also an avid cyclist outside of school.  

Bill Luo

Bill Luo is the son of Taiyou Luo and Qiuyun Li. Bill will be attending University of Texas at Austin in the fall and will study Economics. Bill was also accepted by University of Washington (Seattle), Northeastern University, The Pennsylvania State University, The Ohio State University, Rutgers University, University of California– Davis, and University of California– Irvine.  

Bill has maintained highest honors status while attending Portsmouth Christian Academy at Dover. Bill was a member of the track team in his sophomore year. Last summer, he participated in an online teaching program. His job was to teach kids the importance of protecting the environment. He will read books or hang out with friends in his spare time. His favorite sport is tennis. He is planning to be a university professor in the future.
