Mondays with Mike: Rising Scholars: Balancing Academics, Athletics, and Faith

Dear PCA Community,

Thanks to all our families who took part in last week’s Parent-Teacher conferences! Those connect points are so important to establish strong partnership together. We appreciate you investing that time with us and trust God will bless that effort.

Thank you as well to all those who made the Veterans Day Chapel such an amazing experience: our Veterans and Guests, student leaders, musicians and technicians, our volunteer supporters. As today is Veterans Day, know we are grateful for all of our servicemen and women: past, present, and future!

Link to the Veterans Day Chapel is above and HERE. See our student leaders guide us through this remembrance, Sophomore Riley Tuttle’s Honor Wall updated for this year, our guest speaker Master Gunnery Sergeant (Retired) Snider, and much more. We thank God for all our servicemen and women.

PCA Scholars Share Inspiring Journeys

On the podcast this week we explore academic journeys of three remarkable  Upper School students: Sophia, Mia, and Kennedy. As you listen, you will see powerful lessons in balancing academics, athletics, and spiritual growth. These students, and their peers, are learning to navigate complex schedules and personal goals while staying grounded in their faith—a journey that reflects the heart of what PCA strives to provide.

Here are four key lessons they shared:

1. Purposeful Planning: Through trial and experience, these three have developed strong habits for balancing their academic and extracurricular commitments. They’ve learned that structured schedules—often planned down to the hour—empower them to excel without feeling overwhelmed.

2. Faith as a Foundation: Many of our students find that their faith isn’t just a part of their lives; it’s the anchor that holds them steady. This foundation encourages them to pursue excellence with integrity, resilience, and compassion, embracing each challenge as an opportunity to grow.

3. Thriving in Community: PCA’s unique, close-knit community fosters a sense of belonging and support, where students encourage one another to strive for excellence. Peer support, coupled with encouragement from dedicated teachers and coaches, plays a pivotal role in helping students achieve their goals.

4. Building Resilience and Grit: Through the pressures of academics and personal challenges, students have developed critical life skills in resilience and self-discipline. These lessons prepare them for college and life beyond, equipping them to confidently tackle future endeavors with grit and determination.

These key lessons shared by three of our outstanding PCA scholars illustrate what makes PCA a uniquely impactful environment for growth of all kinds, especially mind and spirit.

As we continue to support and guide all our students in their journeys, we are grateful for the partnership of our parents, teachers, and community. Together, we’re shaping young adults who pursue excellence and bring a Christ-centered approach to every aspect of their lives.

She shares her strategies for managing time effectively, juggling her responsibilities as a student and an athlete, and the importance of maintaining a routine that includes personal reflection and spiritual growth.

Next, Mia, a senior with a passion for science, talks about her journey from homeschooling to tackling a diverse range of science subjects, including marine science and sports medicine. She opens up about the challenges of balancing a busy schedule filled with soccer and dance, and how her faith provides the strength and motivation to excel academically and personally.
