Taking Center Stage
Opportunities in theatre abound at PCA! In addition to being a boatload of fun and a wonderful way to meet new friends, our educational theatre program seeks to help students develop speaking and presentation skills that enable them to shine both on and off the stage.
Class presentations and the annual speech meet provide opportunities to develop communications skills at a young age within the context of student’s homerooms. Once students reach 4th grade, they are eligible to participate in our after-school theatre program.
Winter Black Box Show
In our winter Black Box show, students perform a variety one act plays: one for 4th and 5th grades, one for Middle School, and one for Upper School students. This allows for plenty of opportunities for all students to grow in their audition, movement, and presentation skills. High school students take their performance to the NH Educational Theater Guild’s statewide one act drama competition where individuals are regularly recognized for excellence in acting.
Our big event of the year is our spring musical, open to students in grades 6-12. Our shows are professional level productions that beautifully integrate story, song, and dance. A live pit orchestra accompanies the show and consists of PCA instrumentalists who play alongside professional musicians from the community. Recent shows include, Little Women, The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins, The Secret Garden, The Sound of Music, and The Pirates of Penzance.
Tech, Crew, and More!
Not all our theatre stars appear on stage. A host of students work behind the scenes to ensure the success of our productions. Examples include stage managers, sound technicians, lighting technicians, set builders, set painters, scenic designers, make-up artists, costumers, backstage crew, choreographers, pit musicians, and more. Theatre students form a diverse community of close knit students who love working together in a myriad of ways to tell great stories.
