Student Feature: Abby, Senior Class
What do you love about Portsmouth Christian Academy?
I love that I can feel free to share my faith, ask questions and grow with fellow Christians. I also love the small class sizes and the ability to get to know my teachers.
Describe one of your favorite teachers and tell why he/she is a favorite.
Mr. Foley is my favorite teacher because he brings literature to life. Teaching isn’t just his job but his passion and he makes that known. He is encouraging, helpful, and also makes everyone feel important. His lighthearted spirit makes school a little less boring.
In what ways have you grown (spiritually, academically and/or developmentally) as a result of your experience at PCA?
PCA has challenged me to reach my full potential. The classes are rigorous and challenging which I feel it has prepared me well for my upcoming college experience. I have also learned to be a spiritual leader through small groups and become vulnerable. I’ve learned to create friendships within all grade levels and encourage the younger students. I have been able to stretch myself in numerous ways.
Portsmouth Christian Academy’s mission is “to honor God joyfully by inspiring students to maximize their God-given potential.” How do you experience this mission at PCA?
The staff at PCA are dedicated to helping each and every student find their passion. PCA offers a wide range of classes allowing each student to experiment and discover his/her abilities. The teachers at PCA not only want us to succeed in the work force but also spiritually. The teachers are constantly praying for us and instilling God’s truth into our lives. The joy of Christ is also evident in the ways the teachers do their job.
How do you feel that PCA is preparing you for graduation, college and life?
PCA has prepared me academically and spiritually. I have a foundation in my faith that I can stand upon and the rigorous classes have helped me create useful study habits.
What makes PCA different from other schools in our area?
PCA creates a different atmosphere with its Christ centered focus. The teachers at PCA feel called to be here and that is a blessing. Also PCA creates a welcoming environment to Christians and also those discovering more about the faith. In addition the class sizes are small and intimate.
What opportunities do you experience at PCA that you don’t think you would have gotten to experience anywhere else?
I would never have been able to be a small group leader or be such a big part of so many sports teams.
