Family Story: The Vacarros Family

The Vacarro Family has graduated all three of their daughters from Portsmouth Christian Academy, leaving a lasting legacy on our Fine Arts Department in every area of creative expression. All three girls were key performers on stage in theatre and music, and all three have gone on to 4-year universities, taking their love of the arts with them.

What do you love about Portsmouth Christian Academy?
I love that my kids are happy. Though they find their workload challenging, they love their school, their teachers, and their classmates. I love knowing if my kids go to their teachers for guidance and advice, biblical truths will be spoken to them. I love that they have a safe environment to develop and grow not only academically, but emotionally and spiritually.

Why did you choose PCA for your child?
Honestly, I wanted them to be in light, not darkness.

In what ways have you seen your children grow (spiritually, academically and/or developmentally) as a result of their experience at PCA?
I have noticed a profound change in my daughter’s writing abilities, as well as their growth in navigating difficult and challenging situations, i.e. advocating for their grades, and communicating effectively with teachers and students. I am also beyond thrilled to hear my daughters praying with their friends and starting Bible studies during their free periods and outside of school.

Portsmouth Christian Academy’s mission is “to honor God joyfully by inspiring students to maximize their God-given potential.” How does your child experience this at PCA?
I think my kids are being stretched beyond their comfort levels, and are thrilled to see what they can accomplish through hard work, and prayer. They also have the opportunities to develop the gifts God has given them through participating in the worship band, orchestra, and voices. And if that isn’t enough they get to experience how God can work and develop cooperation through athletic teams.

What would you tell another parent to encourage them to consider enrolling their child at PCA?
I tell parents that my children are thriving academically, spiritually, and emotionally at PCA.
